Shredders - Data Destruction Equipment
Choosing The Right Shredder...What You Need To Know!
What category of shredder do you need? Strip-cut or cross-cut? Will you meet the Federally mandated guidlines for data destruction? Call us at 215-674-4114 and we'll help you choose the right shredder or use the Brett quick links to narrow down your choice.
Unlike shredders purchased at office super stores, our shredders are industrial grade, precision‐engineered machines built to provide years of reliable and efficient operation. Our line-up of shredders in addition to paper can dispose of a variety of materials ranging from credit cards and compact disks to VHS tapes and three‐ring binders. With data and identity theft on the rise, effectively disposing of your company’s confidential data is more important than ever — and choosing the right shredder is just as important. Brett has specialist trained to help you correctly evaluate your disposal needs and assist you in selecting the models that best fit your requirements. The following is a list of information and general guidelines that you will want to consider.
Shredder categories
Deskside shredders ‐ No office, regardless of size, should be without deskside business shredders. All deskside models have quiet motors, high sheet capacities, and a variety of electronic features for easy and safe operation. All Deskside strip‐cut and cross‐cut models will accept staples and paper clips and many will shred CDs.
Centralized Office shredders ‐ the Centralized Office shredder category combines innovative technology with world‐class safety features. These qualities are imperative in large office environments where many people will be using the same shredder. Feed openings from 10 1/4 to 16 inches handle a wide range of document sizes and a variety of cutting heads are available in security levels 2 through 6. All Centralized strip‐cut and cross‐cut models will accept staples and paper clips and many will shred CDs.
High Capacity shredders ‐ For organizations with a need for high volume shredding, an in‐house shredding program based around Destroyit High Capacity shredders is the most secure and economical way of disposing sensitive documents.
High Security, Micro-cut shredders ‐ When the absolute highest level of security is required, these models produce a micro‐cut shred size. Approved for Top Secret level government use including D.O.D. and N.S.A.
Digital Media Shredders - Countless amounts of confidential information is stored on our computers, USB sticks, magnetic tapes, CDs, DVDs and Blu-ray discs, credit cards and customer cards as well as disks. But what happens to these storage devices when they are no longer required?
Cardboard Shredders - Convert old cardboard into new packaging material.
Strip‐cut vs. Cross‐cut
Strip‐cut shredders - shred documents into narrow strips ranging from 3/32" to 1/2" depending on security level required. Strips are equal in length to original document. Strip‐cut models are generally less expensive than cross‐cut models and will handle more sheets per pass.
Cross‐cut shredders - shred documents in two directions for extra security. Shred sizes range from 5/16" x 3" to 1/32" x 3/16". Smaller shreds also mean less shredded bulk and less frequent bag changes.
Questions to consider
- Are we in compliance with FACTA and/or HIPAA laws as they relate to the proper disposal of information in consumer reports and records to protect against “unauthorized access to or use of the information.” ?
- What data formats will need to be shredded—documents with staples and paper clips? Computer disks? Continuous forms? CDs?
- How many people/departments handle sensitive data which needs to be shredded?
- How much information will need to be shredded every day? Every week? The actual amount usually turns out to be double the estimated amount.
- How many shared copiers and printers are in your office? Ideally, a shredder would be located at each so that not‐so‐perfect copies or printouts can be easily destroyed.
- What level of document security (shred size) do you require? Is strip-cut adequate or do we need the added security of cross-cut?
